The old world was Gods (humans) world, wiped out after a nuclear war, maybe. The remaining humans are known as Gods now, ruling this world from their isolated cities. They have some powerful weapons, "the fire from the sky" must be some kind of bomb, a missile, or even a laser.

So maybe since it was a nuclear war, humans of this era cannot handle "normal fire" because of mutations. Also the fire that kill everyone long ago, as you say maybe nuclear weapons, and the later "purges" may be missiles or bombs.

Yes, it was our world destroyed by a cataclysm and taken back some eras in terms of civilisation and technological development owed to those mutations rendering people combustible.
Around the time they started travelling by "truck" and our meeting the "three brides" they showed a rusting metal bilboard in the grass, somewhere in the woods. The typical metal signboards we use nowadays on highways and at the entrance/exit of a town or village. It's why I somehow I have this series in about the same category as Kaina of the Snow Sea. Kaina's village's "signkeeper" had some of those rusting signboards as well.

It seems like after the apocalypse, there were a crazy ton of mutations to the extent that it pretty much seems like magic. This is most apparent with the fire beasts made of fuel (not to mention a frikin dragon), but is also there more subtley with races like the tree folk and the spiders, who seem to have specific adaptations. They said earlier that the spiders were kicked out of the clans of gods, so I can only assume the other God clans have other kinds of mutations, or they're pre fire-weakness mutation pure humans like that one group of purists in Fallout.

Very admirable that Kaho will decide to marry Shouzou, that protected not just her, but the other girls as well. Very unselfish of her from when we first met her. Decent character growth for someone I thought would die a few episodes ago.

Let's hope he does wake up to see what has been waiting for him.

If I didn't know any better, when we saw the pictures of planes from the distant past, what they call 'Skyfire.' Just maybe Nuclear energy. And the radiation fallout from it's use in weapons, caused a mutagenic changes to the world at large.

Would explain the supernatural aspects of the current world. Just guessing and waiting to see if they will tie the past to the present with this imminent conflict that is about to happen.

People living in this world are so close to reach the level of the previous human civilization when it was eradicated. They only need 50-60 years to build their first planes, bombs, and everything they need to go to war against "gods".

It's funny to see how many adventure stories are set in a world after our civilisation and quite often you don't see it until much later. I can think of a dozen at least, but not by name...
